Cultural Awareness and Palliative Care

Wednesday 06 June 2012 Culture is a significant aspect of anyone’s life and the importance of assessing and meeting the cultural needs of an individual with life limiting illness cannot be underestimated. This workshop will focus on the care of Indigenous people with a life limiting illness. Aboriginal history and spirituality will be explored. Issues of loss and grief, effective communication and what it means to be culturally safe will be discussed. Geraldton WA

PRESENTERS: Joylene Koolmatrie is a descendant of the Ngarrindjeri and Kayteye people in South Australia. She is now based in Perth, and works primarily with Aboriginal people delivering psychological services in the area of loss, grief and trauma.
